TAKE YOUR NEXT STEP: TITHING AND BEYOND
We don't worship money, but we do worship God with our money. We do it consistently, faithfully, joyfully to extend the Kingdom of God.
(1) WHAT THE BIBLE TEACHES
- Nobody needs to live in spiritual poverty, for Christ has paid the perfect price for deliverance and redemption. Jesus redeemed mankind from the curse of poverty. (Gal 3:13-14)
- The blessing of Abraham includes spiritual and financial prosperity. (2 Cor 8:9)
- Shaddai means: The Lord thy Providence, the All-Sufficient One. (Phil 4:19; Mark 11:24). God is your source of provision.
(2) SEVEN REASONS TO TITHE
- Tithing honours an Old Testament principle of how God provided for the ministers He called and the expenses of their ministries. (Nm 18:20-21; Mtt 23:23; 1 Cor 9:13-14;Hb 7:8;Lk 11:42).
- Tithing is honouring the Creator as Owner of all. (Ps 24:1).
- Tithing is the antidote to covetousness. (Lk 12:15; Col 3:5; Hebr 13:5).
- Tithing govern our ever-expanding spending.
- Tithing is God’s way of bringing about good deeds. (2 Cor 9:6-8)
- Tithing is God’s way of providing for you. (2 Cor 9:6-8; Mal 3:8-12; Lk 6:38)
- Tithing proves and strengthens our faith. (Hebr 13:5; Phil 4:19).
(3) EVERY BLESSING HAS A CONDITION
- If someone needs forgiveness, he must confess his sins. (1 John 1:9)
- If someone needs healing, he must forgive. (Mark 11:22-26)
- If someone wants to be financially blessed, he must give. (Luke 6:38; Matt 6:33; Mal 3:10)
(4) WHAT IS A TITHE? (MALACHI 3:6-12)
-
According to Mal 3:8-12 we must return to God with our money.
-
This Scriptures says: THE TITHE BELONGS TO THE LORD.
In other words, we don't have a choice what we do with it.
-
And the amount is not the issue.
- The issue is being faithful TO GOD in giving the tithe (10% of your income), of all income God has given you, for that belongs to God.
The tithe is cricital because it sanctifies your life. Why? Because we receive the money from a cursed system.
- Genesis 1,3 speaks about the ground that is cursed. Therefore, when we bring the tithe to God, He sanctifies it.
- In other words, it is set a part for the purposes of God.
- God's promise when you are faithful according to Malachi 3:11-12 “And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,” Says the Lord of hosts; And all the nations will call you blessed.
You bring the tithe to the storehouse
-
The storehouse is your local church where you are under authority.
-
Where is spoken into your life. Where you learn. It is a body of believers you are connected to.
- You are accountable and you take responsibility there. That is the storehouse.
(5) WHAT IS AN OFFERING
- After giving the tithe, what is left is seed.
- Now we need to sow seed. This is where the faith-element comes within your life which brings abundance.
- Verse 10: He who supplies (firstly) seed to the sower and (secondly) bread for food.
- You cannot eat your seed. God says you have enough.
- So you have to sow, to break the poverty-cycle in your life, so that your seed can be multiplied back to you.
- And God will also provide for you the bread to eat.
PEOPLE HAVE SO MANY EXCUSES FOR NOT DOING THE BIBLE GOD'S WAY
What you don't realise is that you are not only robbing yourself but also others from receiving blessings from God in every area of your life. Because giving is a heart thing. It is an issue of faith. Either you believe God or you don't.
EXCUSE 1 - TITHING IS UNDER THE LAW AND WE DO DO NOT LIVE UNDER THE LAW
- Abraham tithed about 500 years and Jacob 250 years before the law was ever instituted.
- Evidenlty Abraham tithed as a token of gratitude towards God who had just given him such a great victory. (Gen 14:20)
- This Abraham's giving was not to stir God to act but it was a heart responding to the victory God has given him.
EXCUSE 2 - IT IS NOT IN THE NEW TESTAMENT. IT IS AN OLD TESTAMENT PRINCIPLE
- Jesus Himself spoke the following words on tithing in Luke 11:42 (NLT) “What sorrow awaits you Pharisees! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens, but you ignore justice and the love of God. You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things.
EXCUSE 3 - I'D RATHER GIVE MY TITHE TO THE BEGGAR ON THE STREET
- Psalm 37:25 (NLT) Once I was young, and now I am old. Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned or their children begging for bread.
- There needs to be accountability by the person who receives the money.
- A begger uses your "tithing" that according to the Bible belongs to the Lord which you must take to the storehouse and now the beggar purchases alcohol and drugs. Thus, you are paving his way to hell.
- This is not sowing on good soil. Rather sow an offering (not your tithe for it belongs to the Lord) on good soil where a difference is made in peoples lives like an institution that rehabilitate people like this and where possible also get involved - like in a church that trains you, develops you and where they win souls and make disciples.
EXCUSE 4 - I'D RATHER GIVE MY TITHING TO A STRUGGLING CHURCH OR TELEVISION MINISTRY
- There are people who say they rather give their tithes to struggling churches, missionaries, other organizations and family and friends who suffer, etc.
- The Bible says: "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse." (Mal 3:10; Deut 26:12).
- The tithe belongs to the Lord. You cannot chose what you want to do with it. He commands you to pay it in the storehouse as explained in the paragraphs above.
TITHING KEEPS AWAY THE DEVOURER AS IT SANCTIFIES IT FROM THIS CURSED SYSTEM OF THE WORLD. GIVING OFFERING BEYOND YOUR TITHES ACTIVATES MULTIPLICATION WITHIN YOUR LIFE
- Nobody can afford not to give his tithe. It belongs to God.
- By giving an offering after you already tithed, it creates an opportunity for God to shower you with blessings of increase even more upon your life. (Prov 3:9-10)
- In addition to the financial prosperity that tithing holds, there is great spiritual blessing and growth involved. In Mal 3:18 the Lord speaks of those who fear Him by giving tithe. "Then you shall again discern between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who serve Him not."
- As we give generously, man receives the money but God receives our heart of honour towards Him.

MALACHI 3:6-10
Malachi 3:6 (NKJV) “For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore, you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob. 7 Yet from the days of your fathers You have gone away from My Ordinances And have not kept them. Return to Me, and I will return to you,” Says the Lord of hosts. “But you said, ‘In what way shall we return?’ 8 “Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. 9 You are cursed with a curse, For you have robbed Me, Even this whole nation.
10Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.
11And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts. 12And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the Lord of hosts.

Beyond Tithing. Biblical Guidelines on how to give after you already Tithed.
5 But I want it to be a willing gift, not one given grudgingly.
6 Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.
7 You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”
8 And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.
10 For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, He will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you.
11 Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous.
